Back in the very early 70’s, when I first was in the army, actually if memory serves, it was at Ft. Benning,Ga. This was when the Womans Army Corp still existed. A young woman, one of the young people that I was stationed with, came up to me, knowing that I played around with writing . She ask me to write something, to show how she felt at that time. Like many of us, just in the service; young, away from home and all we knew, she felt lost, alone, and not understood. The following was written that evening or maybe the next day. Now in this world of today, I find not much has changed. Women and many others, are still in many ways thought of as second class citizens to be used and then throw away, for they matter not. To all who read the following whether male or female, privileged or not, your are not alone and you truly DO MATTER.
I Am Here
I’m here
I’m real
Don’t over look me
For I may be quiet
Or I may not be among the greats
Like you
I’m human
I have feelings
I have emotions
Just ’cause their not like yours
Don’t count me out
Don’t spit upon me
For I belong
As you belong
All I must say is:
I an here
I exist
I’m a human being
